The Grammy awards are the awards that are given to artists who influence music in any form including rock pop, reggae, jazz, blues etc. Originally known as Gramaphone awards, these awards are given for their outstanding performances . This award was established in 1958 and ever since then, it has been given out annually. They are similar to the Oscar awards for the film industry.
These awards are given based on their originality, influence, creativity and productivity. Also recently the Grammy awards have been giving for Original Music Videos also.
Michael Jackson and Carlos Santana are two very notable figures in the music industry. These two have won the most number of awards in a single night. The big four which is Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist are the major categories .Cristopher Cross, a reknowned musician has been a recipient of this award.
Although this award gives Credit to outstanding performers in Music industry, many people feel that this award is only for profit making and they do not cater to the high intellectuals .A lot of people think that it is only Music Business and nothing else.
